Zoids - powerful animal-shaped combat mechs - are no longer used in warfare, but in organized sporting competitions. The Blitz Team, a group of pilots struggling to carve out a niche for themselves in the Zoid battling leagues, experience a stroke of luck when Bit Cloud, a vagrant junk dealer, wanders into their midst and proves himself capable of piloting the temperamental Liger Zero, a Zoid that refuses to let anyone else into its cockpit. Led by Bit and the Liger, the Blitz Team steadily make their way to the top - but along the way they attract the unwelcome attention of the Backdraft Group, an organization of Zoid pilots that operates outside the laws set down by the Zoid Battle Commission. The Backdraft want powerful Zoids to add to their ranks, and they have their eye on the Liger Zero...

Zoids New Century/Zero Review
Unique anime based on Animal Mecha with a Dueling/Battle Theme. Geared more towards kids, but was decently enjoyable.
Zoids was an anime that I saw when I was probably around 10-12 years old, and It was a very enjoyable anime that I fell in love with at the time. My friend and I were really excited and wanted to collect the models, but I never once got a model :(. I love the ~!Liger Zero, and all the transformations that it had.. Transformations were always very cool to me when I was younger as "Mega Man" was my favorite game and video game "hero."!~
I re-watched Zoids when I was a bit older, so probably around 5-6 years ago I would say, and I did enjoy it, but it left a lot to be desired I would say. There was a pretty good progression, but I felt that they could have done so much more than having ~!constant battles, then getting parts, and just doing that; however that's common with the dueling theme, but I felt the world was "small" compared to a lot of battle anime."!~
Basically, this unique anime revolves around "Animal Mecha," named "Zoids," with a dueling type/battle theme. Basically you will fight in teams to defeat enemies, and then you get parts and such for your Zoids because in battle your Zoids will get damaged and you will have to replace/upgrade parts. Plus if you win money, you can also buy new parts/upgrades. There are many things that get traded, and it seems to all be run by a council that runs and monitors all battles. The Zoids don't just explode, they basically have certain battle damage they can take, based on their parts, so think of like an RPG character.
Overall if you like mecha, and want a unique take on it I would say give it a try. I would say that I do feel it is more feared towards children, and I did watch the dub, so that might have had something to do with it, as I don't know if there were any changes over from the subbed (if it was subbed at all). It might not be that enjoyable for some of the more "veteran" anime/manga lovers, but it might be a nice intro for those into anime as well as mecha, as well as those who are younger in age.
